Opportunities Are Everywhere
When searching for external scholarships:
- Start with your local and regional community - the candidate pool is smaller, which may increase your chance of receiving an award
- Take caution when an application requires any personal information that does not pertain to the scholarship, such as social security numbers or access to social media accounts
- Pay attention to the timeline for award selection - some might take up to a year or more
- Find niche scholarships that pertain to who you are as an individual and what your interests are
- Avoid applying for any scholarship that charges an application fee

External Scholarships
Freeman-ASIA accepts applications from U.S. citizens or permanent residents studying at the undergraduate level at a two-year or four-year college or university, with a minimum 2.8 cumulative GPA, who demonstrate financial need to study abroad in East or Southeast Asia. Amount varies.

The College JumpStart Scholarship is an annual, merit-based competition -- financial need is not considered -- that is open to 10th-12th graders, college students and non-traditional students. The main requirement is that you are committed to going to school and can express your goals for getting a higher education.

The Gilman Scholarship Program provides up to $5,000 (or $8,000 including the Critical Need Language Award) for undergraduate students who are U.S. citizens and Federal Pell Grant recipients to participate in in-person or virtual international programs.
