Profile

Dr. Chad Barklay is responsible for leading the Advanced High-Temperature Materials group at the University of Dayton Research Institute (UDRI), which is composed of scientists, engineers, and technicians who conduct cutting-edge sponsored material based research and development for various sponsors including DOE, NASA, DOD and a wide range of industrial partners. Dr. Barklay has over 25 years of experience in the assembly, testing, and transportation of Radioisotope Power System (RPS) units. Additionally, Dr. Barklay has participated on a number of formal programmatic review committees for DOE and NASA on a broad range of technical areas.

Dr. Barklay is also the UDRI principle investigator at the research institute regarding the study of the effects of low-level neutron radiation on metals, alloys, and ceramics. He has extensive experience in the development and application of glass/glass-ceramic/ceramics, nickel/cobalt-based superalloys, carbon-carbon composites, and refractory metals.

Dr. Barklay is a paratrooper, combat veteran, and a retired Colonel from the U.S. Army Reserve.
