We do not block rooms for Family Weekend. However, hotel information can be found below. 
Reservations at the University of Dayton Marriott will open at noon Tuesday, Dec. 12.

2023 Family Weekend Schedule

Please review the 2023 Family Weekend Schedule below for reference.

Bookstore Hours:

  • Friday, September 29th, 9 a.m. - 6 p.m.
  • Saturday, September 30th 9 a.m. - 6 p.m.
  • Sunday, October 1st, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.
  • Family Weekend shirts are available through the UD Bookstore. If you place your order by Thursday, September 21st, you will be able to pick it up at the bookstore during Family Weekend!

Food Drive for Food4Flyers Food Pantry:

  • Drop off your donations for the Food4Flyers Food Pantry at the Family Weekend Information Hub: Friday, September 29 from 3:30 pm - 7:00 pm in the RecPlex lobby or on Saturday, September 30 from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm in Gosiger Hall, Room 131.

    • Ramen noodles
    • Dry pasta
    • Pasta sauce
    • Peanut butter & almond butter

    • Macaroni and cheese (bowls and boxes- kinds that don’t require additional ingredients like milk and/or butter preferred)

Get active at the RecPlex (our campus recreation center):

  • UD Families have the opportunity to get active free of charge during Family Weekend through use of the RecPlex facility for open recreation! Minors must be accompanied by an adult, waivers must be signed at check-in, must have driver's license present for access.
  • Class Policy: All equipment needed will be provided. Must be at least 16 years of age. A parent or guardian must be present and sign the Participation Waiver for children under 18; a UD student (age 18+) can serve as a parent/guardian. Please refer to the UDCR minor policy. Closed-toe athletic shoes and appropriate athletic attire are required (no exposed buttons, rivets, zippers, etc.). Classes are offered through registration. Space is limited.
  • RecBike Rentals: Take a ride around the neighborhood or hit the trails with our RecBikes! Must be a member (students are members) to rent the bikes, however a member can rent more than one at a time. All participants must sign a waiver at the time of check-out. Free to rent and must be back before sundown. All bikes come with a helmet and bike lock upon request.

LINK Dayton Bike 

  • Link Dayton is the best way to get around this weekend with 37 pick-up and drop-off locations across the city. Students get a free annual membership with the promo code FLYERS. Use in the Coupons and Credits section of the app with your student email. Parents can use the promo code Family 23 for 5 trips at 30 minutes each with the Pay-As-You-Go pass. Flu Prevention Clinic (Gosiger Hall, Student Health Center): 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.

  • UD is proud to partner with Premier Health to provide free flu shots on campus. Students and their family members will be able to receive flu vaccines on a walk-in basis on Sept 29th from 9:30-11:30 and 12:30-3:30. Please bring your student ID and your insurance card to the Student Health Center in the lower level of Gosiger Hall to get your vaccine.

Jummah Muslim Prayer (Rike Center): 1 p.m.

$$ Great Escape Game Dayton (in Beavercreek): various times, 3 p.m. - 11:30 p.m.

  • Each Escape Game is a real‑life escape room adventure for a group of 8 (or less). You’ll solve puzzles, crack codes, find hidden items, and more in order to escape the room in under one hour! Location: Great Escape Game Beavercreek (2332 Grange Hall Rd, Beavercreek, OH 45431). Includes arrival 15 minutes early for check in.

  • Stop by the family weekend information table for a copy of the Family Weekend schedule, drop off your donations for the Food4Flyers Food Pantry, and pick-up some free Dayton swag just for families. 

Family Weekend Reception sponsored by the Multi-Ethnic Education and Engagement Center & Housing and Residence Life (MEC Family Room, Alumni Hall 101): 5:30 p.m. - 7 p.m.

  • The Multi-Ethnic Education and Engagement Center (MEC) & Housing and Residence Life (HRL) cordially invite you to join us for a Family Weekend Reception. We look forward to reconnecting or meeting you for the first time! Everyone is welcome!

First-Gen Ice Cream Social (Kennedy Union Hangar) 5:30 p.m.- 7:00 p.m.

  • Do you identify as a first-generation college student? Or are you interested in learning more about how to become a first-generation ally?  Meet other first-gen students, get to know members of the team, and learn more about upcoming events. We want to see and hear from you!  Join us in the KU Hanger for our First-Gen Ice Cream Social. $$ Annual Cornhole Tournament (RecPlex MAC Gym): 6 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.

  • Join UDCR for a single elimination cornhole tournament at the RecPlex! Teams of two (2) $20 entry fee. Pre-register before September 12 and guarantee a t-shirt. Teams may also register on-site, but late registration does not include a t-shirt. Registration will max out at 64 teams.
  • Tickets are sold out.

Pride of Dayton Marching Band (Humanities Plaza): 6:30 p.m. - 7:15 p.m.

  • Join the Pride of Dayton Marching Band for "POD in Concert," featuring a performance of music from their 2023 Halftime Shows and University of Dayton standards. Under the Direction of Kenneth Will. Weather permitting.

UDLateNight presents Natterdoodle Memorabilia Kits (Kennedy Union, Torch Lounge): 7 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.

  • Join UDLateNight to decorate your very own UD Memorabilia! Each kit includes a keychain, luggage tag, lapel pin, coaster, ornament and magnet. The event is free, but make sure you register in advance.
  • Tickets are sold out. 

Volleyball vs. Fordham (Frericks Center): 7 p.m. - 9 p.m.

  • Cheer on our Flyers in their match versus Fordham! Admission is free!

UD Jazz Ensemble (Kennedy Union, Boll Theatre): 8:30 p.m.

  • The Dayton Jazz Ensemble is the premier jazz band at the University. The ensemble comprises of several majors from across the campus. The group will be playing a wide range of music including Latin, swing, be-bop, fusion, rock and funk.

Free Cosmic Nights in the Hangar (Kennedy Union, The Hangar): 9 p.m. - midnight

  • Open to all UD students and families, enjoy a night of bowling, billiards, and board games under cosmic lights!

Chapel of the Immaculate Conception Open House (Chapel of the Immaculate Conception): 7 a.m. - 2 p.m.

  • The Chapel of the Immaculate Conception is open from 7am to 2pm. Stop in for a moment of reflection or to see our beautiful worship space - at the heart of UD.

Work Experience During College: An Employer Perspective Co-hosted by Career Services and the Parent Leadership Council (Kennedy Union, East Ballroom): 10 a.m. - 11 a.m.

  • Work experiences during college are pivotal to career decision-making and employment success after college. This workshop will educate families about work experiences during college, the employment process, the availability of cooperative education and internship experiences, and the importance of being open to new experiences and diverse geographic destinations. Leaders from AmeriCorps, GE Aerospace, Premier Health, and Spotify are scheduled to serve on our panel.
  • This event is PATH point eligible by AVIATE.

Education Abroad Opportunities (Science Center, room 119): 10 a.m. - 10:45 a.m.

  • Come learn about the range of education abroad opportunities available to UD students, including short-term winter and summer courses, semester-long programs, integrated learning opportunities, and cross-cultural immersions.

Education Abroad Semester Exchanges (Science Center, room 119): 11 a.m. - 11:45 a.m.

  • If you already know that a semester-long exchange program at a partner university is of interest, come join us for a session where we will go into more details about the various exchange options.

Education Abroad Faculty-Led Programs (Science Center, room 150): 11 a.m. - 11:45 a.m.

  • Through these programs, engage in cross-cultural learning and reflection during a faculty-led program. Learn more at this session.

  • Cheer on our Flyers in their match versus Fordham! Admission is free!

Explore the University Libraries (Roesch & Marian Library): 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.

  • What's the Roesch? Go on a self-guided tour of the University Libraries to learn about unique spaces like the Zen Den, Concourse D, and the Collab, and explore the Marian Library, an internationally recognized center for scholarship on the Blessed Virgin Mary.

CAB presents Magician Daniel Martin (Kennedy Union, Boll Theatre): 4 p.m. - 5 p.m.

$$ Family Fun Hunt (Humanities Plaza): 4:15 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.

  • Join the family fun hunt and help raise money for the Children's Miracle Network! Participants will receive a list of hints and locations around UD's campus. Students and family members can work together to figure out the hints. The hunt will begin in the Humanities Plaza with an introduction to our organization where you will then receive the hints. Once the hunt begins you will have one hour to finish the list, there will even be chances for bonus points! Work as a team to find the various locations where a member will be stationed to check you off. The first family to find all of the locations and report back to Humanities Plaza will receive a prize! This event is hosted by UD Miracle, a nationally recognized organization that is dedicated to raising money and awareness for Dayton Children's Hospital through Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. This is a fundraiser collecting $5 for each participant not to exceed $20 (even if more than 4 family members participate).

Men's Soccer vs. St. Bonaventure (Baujan Field): 7 p.m. - 9 p.m.

  • Cheer on our Flyers Men’s Soccer team in their match versus Saint Bonaventure! Admission is free!

Taize Prayer for the Global Synod (Chapel of the Immaculate Conception): 7 p.m. - 8 p.m.

  • Join us for a prayer service consisting of music, chant, scripture, silence, and candle lights as we pray for the ongoing discernment of the Global Synod. Pope Francis has invited young adults from all Christian traditions to Rome this weekend to pray for the gathering of the Synod of Bishops that will occur this October. He has asked the ecumenical Taize community to lead this gathering prayer. Our prayer will be united with their prayer and with the prayers of the entire Church as we chant.

  • Think you know "Who Done It?" Join us for an interactive murder mystery experience where everyone will play a part. Active participation is necessary to ensure a great experience for all. Ages 13 and up. 
  • $30/person at the door

Free Cosmic Nights in the Hangar (Kennedy Union Hangar): 9 p.m. - midnight

  • Open to all UD students and families, enjoy a night of bowling, billiards, and board games under cosmic lights!

$$ Distance 4 Dreams Pancake Breakfast (Adele Center, McGinnis Multipurpose Room): 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.

  • UD's Distance 4 Dreams' pancake breakfast fundraiser during family weekend helps us raise money for A Special Wish Foundation, which grants the wishes of children & adolescents diagnosed with life-threatening disorders. Enjoy an all-you-can-eat experience that helps grant the wish of a truly deserving child.
  • $15 pre-registered; $20 at the door.

Family Weekend Catholic Mass (Frericks Center): 10 a.m. - 11 a.m.

  • We celebrate faith as a Flyer Family. All are welcome to attend this Catholic Mass. Please note there will not be a noon mass offering, as this mass is structured to serve all families.

Interdenominational Worship Service (Virginia W. Kettering Hall, room 145): 10 a.m. - 11 a.m.

  • We celebrate faith as a Flyer Family. All are welcome to this Christian interdenominational worship.

Local Accommodations

For those guests needing hotel accommodations, we encourage you to google the area for accommodations. Please be aware that the Office of Student Transitions and Family Programs does not coordinate space/room blocks at any area facilities, nor do we have any input into their rate structures. Hotels closer to campus tend to fill faster; however, there are plenty of options within a 20-minute radius of campus.
