COVID-19 status level 1 – GREEN - CONTAINED

No vaccine mandate at the current time

The Path Forward Team has carefully considered a vaccination mandate and concluded at this time that with the current high level of vaccinations on campus (71%), our safety protocols, and the exemptions that would need to be granted, campus safety would not measurably improve as the result of a mandate, given current conditions.

On a practical basis, it is not clear that a vaccine mandate would increase the overall campus vaccination rate. Based on our experience last year in implementing a flu vaccine requirement with medical and other exemptions, the number of people vaccinated against the flu did not increase significantly.

Students who are involved in health care-related clinical learning experiences must abide by the vaccine requirements of those health care settings. Our students are expected to comply with those requirements to complete their clinical experiences. Certain programs and activities may also require the vaccine for participants.

We continue to emphasize the importance of personal responsibility and strongly encourage everyone on campus to be fully vaccinated — the vaccines are our way out of the pandemic — and will continue to provide information about how to receive the vaccine. We will continue to carefully monitor pandemic conditions and the latest CDC and public health guidance and make changes as needed.

Blessing of first responders

Campus Ministry and the Department of Public Safety will host a blessing of personnel and vehicles 4:45 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, near the Fitz Hall main entrance. The University will invite local police and fire departments to attend.

Career fair week

Career Services invites UD students and alumni to participate in the in-person career and internship fair Sept. 13 and the two virtual career fairs Sept. 15-16. Located at RecPlex, the in-person fair is for students and alumni of all majors and degree levels seeking internships, co-ops and full-time opportunities. The virtual fairs are based on industry groups. Students and alumni must sign up for group or 1:1 sessions on Handshake to connect with employers during the virtual fairs. Flyer Connection promotes mentoring, networking

Students foster professional relationships and connect with alumni mentors when they join Flyer Connection, the University’s online networking and mentoring platform for students and alumni. Through the platform, students can reach out to alumni, join affinity and industry groups, and sign up for the formal one-on-one alumni mentoring program. To learn more, students should email McKenzie Morin at

Solar prairie signage enhances learning

Signage at the solar prairie at Daniel J. Curran Place will help visitors learn more about the solar array and prairie installed in 2018-19. Designed by UD students, the signage describes the benefits of native plants and pollinators; the species of plants and pollinators found on the prairie; and the role of the solar prairie as a hands-on learning and research space.
