THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW

A prayer for August, 2021

With the joy of a new academic year coming against the backdrop of conflict in Afghanistan, devastation in Haiti and continued suffering and loss from COVID-19, Father James Fitz, S.M., vice president for mission and rector, offers this prayer for the campus community. We invite you to come together in community or individually to offer this prayer of hope for people around the world who are suffering amidst the extraordinary challenges and dangers of this moment in time. NEWS AND NOTES

Record enrollment, most diverse student body in new school year

UD enters the 2021-22 academic year with record overall enrollment and its most diverse student body in history. Nearly 8,700 undergraduate students start classes Aug. 23, including about 2,150 first-year students. Nearly 10% of the incoming class is the first in their family to attend college. Nearly 20% are eligible for the federal Pell Grant, a financial aid award for undergraduates who demonstrate significant financial need. Nearly 19% are from historically underrepresented racial/ethnic groups. The University also expects growth in graduate and professional enrollment, with total enrollment expected to exceed 11,500 and to eclipse UD’s record high established last year. Read more here.

Be part of the UD Chorale

The University of Dayton Chorale is a highly motivated group of students who strive for excellence through the art of choral music. If you want to grow as a musician and learn new and challenging music, submit your Chorale audition 2021-22 materials by Aug. 20. If you cannot submit your audition materials in time, please contact professor Steven Hankle at shankle1@udayton.edu to work out alternative arrangements. All majors are welcome. For more information about other UD ensembles, click here.

Searching for internal tools and resources? Check Porches first.

As part of ongoing efforts to update and streamline the udayton.edu website, content relevant primarily to students (announcements, tools, resources, etc.) is moving to Porches. Many units have already created their Porches sites, and more will be migrating content over the coming weeks. Porches offers improved search and filtering capabilities.
