University community to commemorate 9/11 anniversary

The University will hold a memorial service at 10:15 a.m. Friday, Sept. 10, on the Central Mall near Kennedy Union honoring those who died in the 9/11 attacks. The rain site is the Kennedy Union Torch Lounge; face coverings will be required indoors. Earlier that morning, the SGA and ROTC will honor the lives lost that day by placing 2,977 flags in Central Mall near Kennedy Union.

New bistro at The Hub opens Sept. 16

Startup Grounds, a new bistro featuring food from local underrepresented, minority-owned and woman-owned vendors, opens Sept. 16 inside The Hub Powered by PNC at the Dayton Arcade. The bistro offers undergraduates involved with Flyer Enterprises new experiential learning opportunities. More information will be available later today on Porches

Career fair week

Career Services invites UD students and alumni to participate in an in-person career and internship fair Sept. 13 and two virtual career fairs Sept. 15-16. Located at RecPlex, the in-person fair is for students and alumni of all majors and degree levels seeking internships, co-ops and full-time opportunities. The virtual fairs are based on industry groups. Students and alumni must sign up for group or 1:1 sessions on Handshake to connect with employers during the virtual fairs. Sept. 25 dedication scheduled for campus monuments honoring Black fraternities, sororities

The University will dedicate permanent monuments honoring nine historically Black fraternities and sororities at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, during UD’s Black Alumni Weekend. The new NPHC Legacy Terrace will consist of 10 small stone monuments on Kennedy Union Plaza representing nine historically Black fraternities and sororities and the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC), their umbrella organization. 2021 Alumni Awards

The campus community is invited to meet UD's 2021 Alumni Awards recipients during a special virtual event 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11. Jen Weed ‘95, president of the UD alumni association, will host a live panel discussion with the recipients. Register here to receive the link to the livestream event.

Academic innovation

A new minor and several new courses are among the University’s latest offerings for the 2021-22 academic year to help students meet institutional learning goals and to prepare them to live and work in a diverse, global society. Journeys of Faith

The Marian Library and the U.S. Catholic Special Collection welcome class visits to the exhibit Journeys of Faith: Shrines, Souvenirs and Catholic Tourism through Jan. 31. Librarians are available to give guided tours and collaboratively develop hands-on activities with these unique materials. Email Kayla Harris to request a visit. 

Flyer Funder applications open through Sept. 22

Flyer Funder is the University’s official crowdfunding platform that showcases innovative projects seeking financial support. The platform allows students, faculty and staff to tell their stories and accept donations online. Past projects have included the Pride of Dayton, Christmas on Campus and more. Apply by Sept. 22 to be featured on the platform from Oct. 20-Nov. 19.
