Dr. Banerjee in the forefront of Tsinghua University sign

Electro-Optics and Photonics Professor Travels to China to Share Research

Department of Electro-Optics and Photonics professor Dr. Partha Banerjee visited Tsinghua University in Beijing, China to present an invited lecture on his recent research. Banerjee, who is Director of the Holography and Metamaterials Lab, specializes in digital and dynamic holography, metamaterials, photorefractives and acousto-optics.

Dr. Liangcai Cao from the Department of Precision Instrument at Tsinghua University, the top university in China, has partnered with Banerjee for many years. Haowen Zhou, one of Banerjee's students from Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) in Wuhan who completed his master’s degree in electro-optics and photonics at UD and is pursuing his Ph.D. at the California Institute of Technology, was invited by Cao to work in his group during the summer of 2019, which resulted in joint journal and conference publications.

"Partnership with Tsinghua has been a fruitful and satisfying experience for me and my students,” Banerjee said. “Liangcai has invited me as guest speakers in many optics conferences in China. In May, he has invited me to be a keynote speaker in an optics conference in Wuhan, which is called the Optics Valley in China. The long-standing collaborations with HUST promises to continue bringing in top quality students to our department as well."

During the last visit to China, Banerjee spent two days collaborating with faculty from Tsinghua University and two weeks co-teaching a course at HUST. During his Tsinghua visit, Dr. Banerjee was interviewed as part of a TV documentary produced by Tsinghua University for the Chinese Society of Optical Engineering.

China is recognized as a leader in the field of optical engineering.
