University of Dayton recognized for excellence in workplace diversity
By the Office of Diversity and Inclusion
The University of Dayton was named the 2023 recipient of the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce Premier Health Workplace Diversity Award, an honor given annually to organizations and companies that serve as “role models in their local community as strong advocates for diversity and inclusion.”
UD was recognized at the chamber’s annual meeting in May.
Since 2006, the chamber and the National Conference for Community and Justice of Greater Dayton has awarded organizations and companies that, according to the award description, “foster an inclusive work environment in which all employees are inspired to contribute their best through their different perspectives, backgrounds and experiences.” Previously known as the Greater Dayton Workplace Diversity Award, the honor was renamed in 2017 to honor Premier Health, the first award recipient.
“This honor continues to exemplify the efforts of our faculty, staff and students to build an inclusive campus community,” said Tiffany Taylor, UD vice president of diversity and inclusion. “It’s wonderful to see the progress across campus toward this goal.”
The University’s diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives have received multiple regional and national honors in recent years. UD was among a small group of colleges and universities nationally honored with a Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award, winning in fall 2020 and 2021. UD also received the Jesse L. Moore Supplier 2022 Diversity Award, a national recognition honoring colleges and universities that take proactive steps to support and engage with minority-owned businesses.
