Roger Brown Lecture: Sports Media and Social Justice with Jessica Luther
In Person
07:00 PM - 08:00 PM
Location: Kennedy Union Ballroom
Cost: Free

A talk with investigative journalist, author, and podcaster Jessica Luther about the modern sports media environment. What does it mean to do journalism and social justice in a time of shrinking newsrooms and low public credibility? Luther will explore the need for a diverse cast of people working in the field because of issues such as athlete activism, college athlete labor, NIL, legalized sports betting, and the growing popularity of women's sports.

Jessica Luther is an investigative journalist, author and podcaster living in Austin, Texas. Her work has appeared in ESPN Magazine, New York Times Magazine and the Texas Observer. She has written extensively on the intersection of sports and violence off the field, especially college football and sexual assault, most notably about Baylor and LSU. She is the author of two books: Unsportsmanlike Conduct: College Football and the Politics of Rape; and Loving Sports When They Don’t Love You Back: Dilemmas of the Modern Sports Fan, which she co-authored with Kavitha Davidson.

Luther is the second resident of the Roger Brown Residency in Social Justice, Writing and Sport at the University of Dayton. She will be in residency from February 27 through 29.
