Who are the Health Equity Fellows?
The Health Equity Fellows Program is a student program through the Fitz Center for Leadership in Community. The student Health Equity Fellows will start their work in their sophomore year at UD and will work with the Fitz Center for three years through mini courses, connected curriculum, two years of paid internships, community engagement projects, capstone projects and research opportunities.

- Must apply as a first year student at UD or UD-Sinclair Academy.
- Students from all majors are welcome to apply if interested in a health related career (medicine, public health, health policy, medical humanities, etc.).
- Must commit to a weekly mini-course held 3:30-5:30 p.m., Fridays, and an orientation held the week before Fall semester classes begin (dates and details TBD).
- Commit to two school years of part-time paid internships and two summers of internships.
- Students must be willing to engage with an interdisciplinary cohort of 15 students.
- Some spots will be reserved for students from Dayton and Montgomery county.
- Co-Curricular Academic Enrichment: By engaging in our mini-course you will receive additional education regarding health equity and the social determinants of health as well as experiential learning opportunities
- Professional Development: Engage in two years of paid internship placements with various community organizations. Additionally, professionals serving with our Health Equity Programs will serve as mentors and offer professional support to each student.
- Financial Support: We aim to lower the barrier for students to engage in co-curricular activities and attend graduate schools by offering scholarships and paid internships.
Interested students are encouraged to apply in the beginning of the spring semester of their first year at the University of Dayton or the UD-Sinclair Academy. The Health Equity Fellows Program accepts students from all majors and concentrations, but prefers students to have an interest in health careers such as medicine, health policy, public health, medically related social work or medical humanities. Our program aims to develop health equity minded students through co-curricular education, mentorship and professional development. Health Equity Fellows will have the opportunity to work with community health partners in Montgomery County and will receive a scholarship for their involvement.
