Alumni and Friends Making an Impact

Joe Twiner ’18

Looking back, it seems every step Joe Twiner ’18 took after graduating from the University of Dayton was leading him home to his now farm. After working in Boston at a few non-profit organizations, then the Labor Guild of the Archdiocese of Boston, Twiner moved to Atlanta and founded Peachtree Farm with his family. It now serves more than 50 individuals with disabilities, providing them with jobs and vocational training.

In his free time, Twiner is a member of his county’s farm bureau and serves as social chair of our Atlanta Alumni Community. He also plays recreational kickball.

Twiner credits his time at the University of Dayton with helping him learn through experience, service and classroom learning. They’re skills he uses every single day to make the world a better place. It also inspired some of the very things he does today at Peachtree Farm — like sharing meals with his farmers. It was something that started when he was on campus, living with nine others in the rambling, three-story house at 1903 Trinity as members of the Marianist community. For Twiner, building community is how you empower people.
