Pilgrimage of Hope: Lent 2024

UD begins Lent — when Christians prepare for Easter through prayer, fasting and almsgiving – on Ash Wednesday, Feb. 14, which features the ancient tradition of sprinkling ashes over the heads of penitents. UD will hold Ash Wednesday Mass at 8 a.m., 11 a.m., 4 p.m., 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. at Holy Angels Church; and 12:30 p.m. at Curran Place. An interdenominational Christian worship service with ashes will be offered at 5 p.m. in Kennedy Union Torch Lounge. Read more about Lent 2024.

Suggestions to help decrease spread of flu, other illnesses on campus

The Student Health Center sent messages to campus about high levels of flu, along with elevated levels of respiratory illnesses, strep throat, COVID-19 and the common cold on campus. The message includes actions to reduce the risk of infection, as well as decrease the risk of infection to the community. View the message to students about illness on Front Porch.

Black History Month

The University of Dayton is committed to recognizing the histories, cultures, experiences and contributions of diverse populations. February is Black History Month, and faculty, staff and students are invited to participate in the University's educational, cultural and religious programming this month to honor the heritage and histories of people of Black and African descent. Summer education abroad information session today

Join a virtual information session at 7:30 p.m. today to learn more about summer education abroad programs, including program options, finances and health and safety. Pre-registration required; click here to register and submit questions. 

Sign up for spring REACH suicide prevention training

The Brook Center invites faculty, staff and students to attend a REACH suicide prevention training session. More than 200 UD community members participated in fall 2023. Bishop Mark J. Seitz to visit UD for talks on immigration, faith

The Most Reverend Mark J. Seitz, bishop of El Paso, Texas, and chairman of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops Committee on Migration, will be visiting the Dayton area Feb. 8-11. QDayton Colloquium Friday, Feb. 9

Join the celebration of LGBTQ+ and allied employees and students 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9, in the Adele Center. All are welcome to attend presentations, panels and exhibits. Refreshments provided. View the QDayton Colloquium program here.

Dialogue Zone session: Am I a voter?

With the Ohio primary election approaching, the Dialogue Zone will host a conversation to discuss the complexities of voting and provide a space for participants to share their experiences 3:35 to 4:50 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15. Register for this dialogue session.

Graul Chair Global Cinema Series presents Ukrainian film Stop. Zemlia

All are invited to a screening of Stop. Zemlia, a Ukrainian-language film following the lives of teenagers in Kyiv and their experiences with friendships and infatuations. The film screening and panel discussion is 6-9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, in Sears Recital Hall. Pizza will be served at 5:30 p.m., followed by an introduction from Masha Kisel, senior lecturer in Russian/Slavic and English. Panelists include Khloe Young-Neawedde and Brianna Comstock from the Brook Center, and Jaro Bilocerkowycz, associate professor in political science.

Nominate outstanding students for leadership awards

Student Leadership Programs is currently seeking nominations of recognized student organizations, undergraduate student leaders, and student organization advisers for the 2024 Student Leadership Awards. Nominees will be recognized and winners announced at the Leadership Awards Ceremony April 21. Submit nominations through 1850 by March 5.

UD pre-medicine graduate spends gap year volunteering at local homeless shelter

Sophia Bair '23, a pre-medicine graduate, is spending a "gap year" before medical school volunteering at the St. Vincent de Paul Gateway Shelter for Women and Families. Bair's gap year is made possible through Marianist PULSE, a post-graduate service initiative that matches volunteers with nonprofit organizations. Read more about Sophia's experience.

Borrow a button maker; purchase supplies from the UD Bookstore's website

Roesch Library's button makers make pins or magnets sized 1.5 inches or 2.25 inches and can be borrowed and used in the library. Supplies are not provided but can be purchased for $5 from the bookstore's website.
