Pilgrimage of Hope: Lent 2024

UD begins Lent — when Christians prepare for Easter through prayer, fasting and almsgiving – on Ash Wednesday, which features the ancient tradition of sprinkling ashes over the heads of penitents. UD will hold Ash Wednesday Mass today at 4 p.m., 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. at Holy Angels Church. An interdenominational Christian worship service with ashes will be offered at 5 p.m. in Kennedy Union Torch Lounge. Read more about Lent 2024.

Measles case in Montgomery County; Be aware of risks

In a message to campus, UD Student Health Center Medical Director Melinda Ruff, M.D., notified our community that Public Health — Dayton and Montgomery County has identified a case of measles in the county. While there are NO cases of measles on campus, the University feels it's prudent to make our community aware of risks and where to find the MMR vaccine against measles, mumps and rubella should you choose to get one. Mass in celebration of Black History Month

The University will host a Mass in honor of Black History Month 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 18, in the Chapel of the Immaculate Conception. The Mass features presider Father Francis Tandoh, CS, SP, special guest homilist Deacon Royce Winters, and musical guests The Ebony Heritage Singers and Rita Winters.

African Americans and the Arts

African Americans and the Arts is the theme for Black History Month 2024. To celebrate, Kevin Cretsos, a member of the University Libraries diversity and inclusion team, assembled a list of recommended websites and library resources.

"Along the Silk Road" Music Concert March 3

The Bach Society of Dayton, with the Graul Endowed Chair in Arts and Languages at UD, presents a concert featuring a selection of ethnic music from countries along the Silk Roads. The concert is 3 p.m. Sunday, March 3, at Kettering Adventist Church; registration and transportation from campus is free for UD students. Register to attend the concert by Feb. 22, arrive in Lot C at 2:30 p.m. March 3, for a ride to the event. The music concert is the first of three parts in the Silk Roads Mosaic: Celebrating Language, Literature and Melodies series; view a full schedule here.

Save the date: Healthcare Symposium

The 14th annual University of Dayton and Miami Valley Hospital Healthcare Symposium is Saturday, April 13, in Kennedy Union. The 2024 symposium — Aligning Innovation: AI in Healthcare — will examine impacts and ethical aspects of artificial intelligence on patient care, medical research and healthcare systems. The event is free for UD faculty, staff and students. Visit the symposium website for more information.
