Learn total solar eclipse basics at info sessions
Beginning today, UD's eclipse committee invites you to drop-in information sessions to learn the basics of a total solar eclipse. Sessions will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 3-5 in the KU Lobby. Additionally, UD eclipse committee member David Wright will give 15-minute talks on the eclipse every quarter hour 9-11 a.m. April 5 in the LTC Studio and 12-2 p.m. April 7 in KU 310. Schedule is subject to change.
Eclipse glasses to be distributed/available for pickup starting today
Distribution of eclipse glasses to employees and students will begin today. We ask that you take just one pair so there is enough for everyone on campus who wishes to get a pair. Students can pick up their pair with their student ID at the front desks of Marianist Hall, Campus South, Marycrest Complex, Founders Hall and Stuart Complex. Residents of VWK can pick up a pair at Stuart Complex. Residents of the student neighborhoods and Garden Apartments can pick up a pair at 461 Kiefaber. A limited supply will be available at the front desks of Curran Place, Roesch Library and RecPlex, and the Kennedy Union information desk if you miss the opportunity to pick up a pair in your offices or student residences. UD eclipse committee invites UD community to watch eclipse on Central Mall
UD's eclipse committee invites you to join your colleagues 1:30-3:30 p.m. Monday, April 8, on the Central Mall to watch the total solar eclipse. Employees are welcome to bring their children. Telescopes will be available to view the eclipse along with a DJ playing eclipse-themed music and an emcee providing information on viewing this experience.
Eclipse grill-out April 8
From 1-5 p.m. Monday, April 8, Dining Services will be grilling up some fun for the total solar eclipse. Enjoy the "Moonstruck: Crossing Paths with a Star," menu on the lower patio outside Kennedy Union and outside Marycrest overlooking the Central Mall. The menu includes burgers, footlong hotdogs, SunChips, Starry soda or Aquafina, and a specialty eclipse-themed popsicle from Sweet P's. The meal is $10, which also enters you into a raffle for UD-logoed prizes. Purchase meal tickets from KU, Marycrest and VWK. Dining services also is giving away 100 Frisbees for the first 100 tickets sold. Eclipse-themed cookies will be on sale the week before the eclipse at all dining locations.

One week until One Day, One Dayton
UD will celebrate the impact donations have on students' lives with the sixth-annual "One Day, One Dayton" 24-hour giving campaign Tuesday, April 9. The goal is for 5,500 students, alumni, faculty, staff and friends of UD to join in supporting the University's mission. One Day, One Dayton is a part of UD's We Soar comprehensive campaign to raise $400 million by 2025 for greater access to scholarships, academic excellence and hands-on learning opportunities. Roger Glass Center for the Arts grand opening, community open house
The UD community is invited to celebrate the grand opening of the Roger Glass Center for the Arts 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, April 13. Student and community work will be featured in every corner of the building, from the lobby to the theater to Flyer Media. You'll enjoy an afternoon of visual arts and creative performances, including the Common Good Players, World Music Choir, University of Dayton Dance Ensemble, University of Dayton Faculty Jazztet, Dayton Ballet, Flyer Media-produced documentaries, art gallery exhibits featuring the Horvath Student Exhibition, and more. 2024 John E. Riley Award winner named
UD's Division of Student Development has selected Liesl Carter, a mechanical engineering major from Centerville, Ohio, as the recipient of the John E. Riley Award. This award recognizes a junior student who has exercised sustained leadership through involvement with student initiatives, exemplifying the educational and service values of the University and Marianists. Pair win Ohio Campus Compact awards
The Ohio Campus Compact honored Kelly Bohrer, UD School of Engineering director of community relations and executive director of The Ethos Center, with its David Hoch Memorial Award for Excellence in Service for her commitment to service-learning and community engagement on campus, and student Lenny Zaleski with the Charles J. Ping Student Service Award and Legacy Award for outstanding leadership and contributions to community service and/or service-learning on campus and in the community. Basketball's Elam Ending founder to speak on campus today
Nick Elam, two-time UD graduate and inventor of the Elam Ending in basketball where every game ends with a basket, will speak as part of UD's Department of Health and Sport Science annual student awards and the Doris Drees Lecture Series, 7 p.m. today in the Kennedy Union ballroom.
For Pete's Sake Blood Drive today
Sign up for the UD Department of Physical Therapy's "For Pete's Sake Blood Drive" through 6 p.m. today at the RecPlex. Donors are asked to register in advance, but walk-ins can be taken as space allows. Everyone who registers will receive an umbrella.
April cultural and religious observances
As a Catholic university, the University of Dayton strives to be a place where people of all religious traditions live, learn and deepen their faith. Many of the world's religious and cultural traditions are represented in the campus community. April observances include Eid al-Fitr or Eid (Islam) April 9-10, Vaisakhi (Sikh) April 13, Passover (Jewish) April 22-30, and Festival of Ridvan (Baha'i) April 21-May 2. Beyond the Veil: Reflections on the paranormal
Join the Dialogue Zone 3-4:30 p.m. Friday, April 12, in Roesch Library 107 for a conversation exploring the concept of angels, spirits, and life after death, to good old-fashioned ghost stories. Register for the session here.
Dialogue Zone facilitator cohort and upcoming Dialogue Zone open house
The Dialogue Zone is accepting applications for facilitators for the 2024-25 academic year from graduate students. The deadline is Friday, April 26. Grab coffee and a treat and learn more about the facilitator experience during a session 2:30-4:30 p.m. Thursday, April 11, at the Dialogue Zone open house in Roesch Library 107.
UD mock trial team advances to national finals
The University of Dayton Mock Trial Team had an outstanding performance at the American Mock Trial Association Opening Round Championship Series tournament March 8-10 in Geneva, Illinois, beating top-ranked programs to earn a bid to the National Championship Tournament April 19-21 in Chicago. Only 30% of the teams that start the season make it to the opening round, and less than 1% earn a bid to the national championship. Senior co-captain Antonino LaCorte earned an all-national outstanding attorney award with a perfect score. Learn more about the Mock Trial team here.
Ethos Center Executive Director Kelly Bohrer to leave University after two decades
Kelly Bohrer, long-time university community-engagement expert and sustainability and social justice educator, will be leaving the University after two decades to pursue a new role at Five Rivers MetroParks. Read more about Bohrer.
