Roger Glass Center for the Arts grand opening, community open house this weekend

The UD community is invited to celebrate the grand opening of the Roger Glass Center for the Arts 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, April 13. Student and community work will be featured in every corner of the building, from the lobby to the concert hall to Flyer Media. You'll enjoy an afternoon of visual arts and creative performances, including the Common Good Players, World Music Choir, University of Dayton Dance Ensemble, University of Dayton Faculty Jazztet, Dayton Ballet, Flyer Media-produced documentaries, art gallery exhibits featuring the Horvath Student Exhibition, and more. Thank you to everyone who made a gift during our sixth annual One Day, One Dayton. Your gifts ensure the University of Dayton continues to provide an unparalleled community learning and living experience forever guided by our Catholic, Marianist mission. 7,023 people made a gift to their favorite area of UD. We hit our three milestones, then reached even higher to unlock $250,000 from Bill Stankey ’80. We covered all 50 states and raised more than $3,433,389. We’re still counting, but we will send you an official summary soon.

Campus Activities Board spring concert

The Campus Activities Board hosts its 2024 spring concert 7 p.m. Saturday, April 13, in Humanities Plaza, with featured artist Mason Ramsey (a.k.a. the Walmart Yodeling Kid meme). Student band Petalbomb will be the opening act. Admission is free to students; UD student ID is required for entry. More details can be found on the CAB Instagram page.

2024 Stander Symposium Schedule

Stander Symposium project abstracts and are open for browsing on eCommons. The 2024 Stander Symposium schedule is available on the website. A Google sheet of the sessions, sorted by department, is available to search and download. During this year’s Stander Symposium Wednesday, April 17, more than 1,000 undergraduate and graduate students will present 468 projects as part of UD’s annual celebration of student research and engagement.

Learn more about Dialogue Zone mini-course during April 11 open house

The Dialogue Zone is offering a one-credit mini-course, UDI 272: Facilitating Dialogue, for undergraduate and graduate students to better understand the function of dialogue and how to implement it in organizations, friend groups, and more. This mini-course is 12:30-1:45 p.m. Thursdays during fall 2024; interested students should fill out this Google form. Have more  questions? Grab coffee and a sweet treat and learn more about the facilitator experience during the Dialogue Zone open house 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, April 11, in Roesch Library 107.

Volunteers needed - Mound Street Academy day April 16

UD student volunteers are needed to share their experiences with Mound Street Academy students visiting The Fitz Center for Leadership in Community's Educational Equity Programs 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 16, to explore college and the University of Dayton as an option. First-gen ice cream social April 18

Do you identify as a first-generation college student or are interested in learning about how to become a first-generation ally? Stop by the first-gen ice cream social 4:30 p.m. Thursday, April 18, in the Roesch Library Gathering Space to meet other first-gen students, get to know members of the first-gen team, and learn more about upcoming events. The event is open to students, faculty and staff. Contact Shyra Thomas or Zachary Lewis with questions.

Intern this summer with Dayton Public Schools Neighborhood Schools Centers

The Educational Equity Programs summer impact program is a 10-week summer internship to provide University of Dayton students an opportunity to work with youth while developing leadership skills. Impact partners are placed in one Dayton Public Schools Neighborhood Schools Center in June and July to provide daily support and operational assistance to K-8 students and site coordinators. Participants receive a $6,300 stipend, and will be required to attend weekly mini-course sessions. Orientation takes place May 22-24. The program is open to all majors, but sophomores and juniors are preferred. Get started by filling out this form, and be prepared to submit a cover letter, resume and references. Education Impact Partners summer internship

The Fitz Center for Leadership in Community's Educational Equity Programs provide UD students service-learning and professional opportunities with community schools, educational organizations, and nonprofit and government agencies. Applications are open for summer internships, with a time commitment of six hours each week including a two-hour mini-course and four hours of service in the Dayton community. Participants receive a $2,000 scholarship. Contact Ashley Wright, director of education equity programs, with questions.

First We Soar campaign goal achieved

Join us in celebration of achieving the We Soar campaign participation goal. Since the We Soar campaign began in 2017, more than 19,250 donors have joined the Front Porch Society — making gifts for three or more consecutive, fiscal years. And more than 70% of them continue to donate annually, many doing so as part of One Day, One Dayton. Thank you for helping UD become the best it can be for current and future Flyers.

UD Magazine digital edition

The spring 2024 University of Dayton Magazine is available online. The cover feature highlights the storied life and remarkable talent of renowned artist Willis "Bing" Davis, whose papers are housed in University Archives. Inside the issue, we check in with the alumni founders of Mission of Mary Cooperative, talk with a student who escaped Afghanistan in a cargo plane, celebrate our first campaign milestone — participation by more than 19,250 new Front Porch Society members — and much more.

All Things Marian

The International Marian Research Institute at the University of Dayton explores current Marian research topics presented by UD faculty, staff and students by collaborating with Radio Maria for "All Things Marian," a weekly live radio show and podcast. Listen to recent episodes here.
