Student Health Agreement

As a Catholic, Marianist university, the University of Dayton believes in learning and living in and through community, respecting the dignity of every person and working together to promote the common good. This commitment to community demands the virtue of solidarity that goes beyond self-interest, calling each of us to care for our neighbor and those who are most vulnerable. The COVID-19 pandemic reminded us that an inherent risk of exposure to serious disease can exist anywhere people are present. This means that everyone in the UD community must act responsibly with humility, patience and a spirit of unity. In a public or campus health crisis, this is not an abstract ideal; this is our concrete responsibility to help protect one another.

I am willing to take on the risk of community living and the following responsibilities in order to be part of the UD campus community, and as such, I agree and acknowledge:

  • I will practice good hygiene, meaning, (a) I will wash my hands thoroughly and often and/or use hand sanitizer; (b) I will practice good respiratory etiquette (covering coughs and sneezes); and (c) I will keep my space and belongings clean and sanitized.
  • I will work to keep my distance from others when I am ill.
  • I will consider getting vaccinated to protect myself and others from communicable illness.
  • I will not falsify health information like immunization or TB status or presence of potential communicable illness.
  • I will be truthful and comply with all expectations pertaining to close-contact, surveillance or any other University-required testing pertaining to any health or safety issue.
  • I will follow the University’s safety guidelines and requirements, understanding they may change on short notice during any health emergency or outbreak. It is my responsibility to keep myself apprised of these changes and adapt to any updated requirements and guidelines, including paying attention to University announcements.
  • I will graciously encourage others regarding safety expectations without judgment or jumping to conclusions and, in turn, I will be respectful of enforcement efforts.
  • I will respect others who choose not to or cannot get vaccinated, and I will also respect those who choose to get vaccinated.
  • If health concerns arise, I will comply with University protocols as they may exist or evolve.
  • I will do my best to respect the dignity of everyone in the UD community, to act without bias, and to help those who may need support.

I can never be completely shielded from all risk of illness caused by COVID-19 or other infections. I understand there may be other diseases or conditions in the University of Dayton or general community that are highly contagious, and I cannot be shielded from those either. I understand that my status as a University of Dayton student obligates me to comply with the terms of this agreement.

By being a University of Dayton student, I agree to comply with this Student Health Agreement. I understand that this agreement may change. I will do my part to protect myself and the UD community.
